What is Theatrical?

At Theatrical, we value creativity, collaboration, and community. We are passionate about producing high quality musical theatre while supporting the growth and development of artists both on stage and behind the scenes. Respect, inclusion and professionalism are at the core of everything we do. We believe in creating a positive and welcoming environment where people feel safe to express themselves, take creative risks and build lasting connections.

What can you expect when you work with Theatrical?

Working with Theatrical is a structured, collaborative and rewarding experience. As a Theatrical volunteer, you can expect clear communication, well planned rehearsals, and a production team that genuinely cares about your wellbeing and success. We welcome a mix of emerging and experienced creatives, and provide support throughout the process to help you grow your skills and confidence. Whether you are performing, designing, directing or volunteering behind the scenes, you will be part of a passionate team working together to create something meaningful and memorable.

Are cast members paid?

Theatrical is a not for profit theatre production company. As part of our licence agreements with the rights holders of the shows we produce, all cast members participate on a voluntary basis. This model is standard across community theatre in Australia.

Our focus is on providing a platform for talented performers, including those who are working towards a professional career and those who have chosen other professions but still have a strong passion for the stage. We are proud to support artists at every stage of their journey, offering opportunities to grow, collaborate and perform in a well regarded production setting.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, talent and passion our cast bring to each show. We work hard to ensure the experience is creatively fulfilling, well organised and genuinely rewarding.

Why are ticket prices what they are?

We aim to keep our ticket prices as low as possible while delivering a high standard of theatre. We know we are more affordable than large commercial or touring productions, but sometimes a little more expensive than smaller community theatre companies.

That difference goes directly into what you see and hear on stage. We reinvest into strong creative direction, quality sound and lighting, and sets, costumes and props that are thoughtfully designed to serve the story, still all within a much smaller budget than professional commercial producers.

We also invest in advertising and promotion to help reach a broad and diverse audience. This not only helps us sell tickets, but also gives our talented cast and crew the chance to perform in front of full houses and be seen by people beyond their own networks. We want as many people as possible to experience the talent, energy and heart that our performers and creatives bring to the stage.

Do performers and creatives receive media exposure?

Yes. We actively promote our cast and creatives where possible to help elevate their exposure within the Australian arts community. This includes interviews, behind-the-scenes features, media releases, show promotions, and social media content that highlights the work of those involved.

Many performers and creatives have used their experience with Theatrical as a platform to grow their careers and professional networks.

Is the company professionally managed?

Yes. While Theatrical is a community based organisation, our productions are led by experienced theatre professionals who bring a high standard of planning, care and creativity to every aspect of the process, from auditions and rehearsals through to performance and pack down.

We are committed to clear communication, well structured scheduling, and creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for everyone involved.

Our ethos is centred on developing and supporting talent, both on stage and behind the scenes. While every production is guided by a skilled and experienced team, we also create space for emerging creatives to step into key roles such as directing, choreography or design for the first time. These artists are supported throughout the process to ensure not only a high quality outcome but also a rewarding and skill building experience.

Do performers and creatives receive credit for their work?

Absolutely. We proudly acknowledge our cast & creatives in our programs, on social media, and on our website. Every contribution matters, and we believe in celebrating the talent and dedication of our entire team.

What kind of experience can I expect if I join a show?

We aim to make each production a fun, focused and creatively fulfilling experience. Many performers return to work with us again and often describe their time at Theatrical as one of the most enriching experiences of their creative life. We welcome both newcomers and experienced performers and provide guidance and support along the way.
